Reviews

Dear Graham

After reading your guide on digital pianos and trying the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-380 at
'Cranes' in Worcester, I decided to go ahead and buy this.  Thank you so much for your
advice prior to purchase and, although I was not able to get as much as I wanted for my
beautiful 'Yamaha' piano, I did get a fair deal which enabled me to purchase the CLP-
380.  I was given some very good advice at 'Cranes' and this, along with your research,
convinced me that I was purchasing the right model.

With the prospect of having to downsize to a smaller house, it was becoming imperative to
think about exchanging my beautiful acoustic 'Yamaha'  for an instrument that could be
played without annoying the neighbours and that would not mind being positioned in a
sunny room.  Although the CLP- 380 cannot create the same beauty of tone as my acoustic
piano, it is, I feel a very good compromise and I am very pleased with the sound that it
makes.  The touch feels perhaps slightly lighter than my piano but this is hardly
noticeable and I have had no trouble in adjusting to play it.

The great benefits of the CLP- 380 are that it can be played with headphones, I can record
my pupils playing (especially useful prior to examinations so that they can really 'hear' what
they are doing), there are no tuning costs and it is much more easily transportable than an
acoustic piano.  I was also very heartened to know that the Royal Academy in London uses
this model of digital piano in its practice rooms and feel that if it is good enough for
such a reputable establishment, then it is certainly good enough for my needs.  Remember,
however, that it does not come with an adjustable stool (I already had one) so it is a
'must' to buy one to sit comfortably  and correctly.

Customer questions and comments

Hi Graham

I've fallen in love with the CLp 380. I went to try out the 340 vs the 330 at Chappells but they also had a 380 there and it was a cut above the rest in tone and touch.

Trouble is, at £3k (internet) its double what I can afford! Do you think I'd be able to pick up a reconditioned model in the £1.5k-ish price bracket? HOw would I go about finding one?

Yours hopefully

Sam

Reply/ Hi Sam

Yes, I completely agree, it's one of the best
digital pianos out there.

You'd be best off looking for a secondhand CLP280.
This is the previous model to the CLP380.

You'll likely find something close to the price
you want to pay.

You can check eBay or here: http://marketplace.ukpianos.co.uk

Yours pianistically,

Graham Howard
