Book Review.
I found the book to be an amazing introduction to the mechanism of a digital piano, as you said i knew more about the instrument specs than the guys working in the stores. I recommend it to anyone thinking to buy one or that already have one.

“Your guide is excellent and gives a really clear view to cut through all the jargon”
Hi Graham,
The book is excellent. I learned more in half an hour of reading your book than I’d managed to pick up in years before that. In particular, what features are useful and which ones are simply gimmicks. It’s hard to see the point of reproducing aspects of an acoustic piano such as less than ideal damping. Your guide is excellent and gives a really clear view to cut through all the jargon.
Kind regards,
Terry

“I am delighted to have found your site”
Hi Graham,
I am so impressed with your extensive guide. I came across it while researching the purchase of a new digital piano. I am delighted to have found your site.
I just sold my Yamaha P-200 which I have had since 2000. I decided to upgrade because the sound and touch of that P200 were really bothering me.
For the replacement I went to Archambault, which is the biggest music store here in Montreal. The salesman, who is apparently an accomplished pianist, showed me a number of digital pianos and wound up recommending the CLP430. His recommendation is in line with the notes reflected in your Guide.
So obviously the advice of that rep was valid.
I haven’t bought it yet, but I believe that the CLP430 is a good choice. I also have a Yamaha acoustic piano. But I hardly ever use it because I need the digital for sequencing/recording. I am an amateur piano player; I do some composing and stuff What I tell people is: “My name is Ashkenazy, I play the piano, but I am no Ashkenazy!”.
Thank you so much, Graham, for allowing me to benefit from your knowledge and experience.
Best regards,
Ted

Hi Graham
Thank you for your book which I found really useful. I used to play the piano during my school years and now picking up the hobby again after 25 years obviously everything has moved on, so as a novice in the digital instrument age this was invaluable to me.
I am still at the investigation stage and have not yet committed to buying anything yet but if I have any further questions I will let you know.
With regards to some feedback and future iterations of the book, it would be useful to have a one-page with all of the pertinent points as a “cheat sheet” to take to the retailer with me rather than carrying the whole book.
many thanks

Hi Graham,
Thanks very much for the book, I found it most useful in unravelling some of the manufactures jargon.

Hi Graham,
Thank you for your very clear explanation of the terms and words that would puzzle the general non-musical public! I learn stuff that no one really tried to explain!

I loved your guide!
The problem is obtaining purchase requisition authorisation from the wife.
Perhaps you need a new chapter to your guide or even a separate guide on
how to convince the wife/husband/partner/significant other.
If I can then work out how to re-arrange the house to fit it in and devise
a strategy to prevent the cats scratching it to pieces I think I’d be ready to buy…

Hi Graham,
We bought a digital piano in February of 2011, thanks to your very excellent & comprehensive guide & comparison of models.
It made a very difficult decision much easier to make, & with lots more confidence.

Hi Graham,
To say that I found the book only useful would be an understatement, it was extremely informative and cleared my muddled head on many terms that I had earlier come across.
A huge appreciation and thanks for making your information so readily and freely available to people. An amazing job and keep it up.

Hi Graham,

I found book very useful, I haven’t decided yet what to buy. Actually had a look yesterday and really listened to the tone of both the Roland and the Yamaha. Found the Roland a deep warm sound and the Yamaha higher pitched, Overall thought found the Yamaha better. Model cvp501(r) which is coming in at a shade under £2k as I’m being offered some cash discount due to a trade in.
The model played well in the small shot I had and I was quite impressed by it, I was originally looking at the CLP440 but for me who is returning to playing music after 20 years the CVP seemed a better buy.
Much appreciated the info in your book and will go on line and check the web pages suggested.

Hi Graham.
I’d like to say – nice one on a great website (and downloadable book) with so much information.
It really looks like you’ve put a lot of effort into supplying information for people in similar
positions to myself, for free! So, thanks.

I had piano lessons as a 10 year old,I then turned to football so gave the lessons up.
I am now in my late 80 s and using a 61 key keyboard to learn again.
I am not quite happy with the piano sound on the keyboard, so I am looking to buy a digital piano around the 4 to 500 mark, it looks like your advice is for me.
thank you, Harry.
