Thanks to Graham I was able to make the impossible decision of selecting the right digital piano. As with other electronic devices there is an enormous selection, enormous enough that I usually forever procrastinate. I found Graham’s impartial and expert on-line information along with his email answers to my questions most helpful and appreciated. My next keyboard purchase will definitely be directly through you Graham. Mom loves the piano.
Happy New Year,

Hi Graham,
I found the book to be of great use for learning some jargon and gave me a great insight when looking at digital pianos on the web and being able to identify key aspects for them.

Thanks for all your help, Graham, really appreciate it – but just a point of accuracy about Gear4Music: they do charge delivery in the UK – we were charged £56 for a digital piano. Also, when it arrived it had a fault, and they said we would have to return it, as they have no service agents available. There was no suggestion they would be able to send someone out to look at it ‘at home’.
Best regards,
Alan.

“A little piece of jewelry in a sea of misleading and confusing info”
After looking for information over the net and in actual stores, all I knew is I was getting more and more lost by the minute. And then I came across Graham Howard’s guide on how to buy a digital piano. I don’t usually download this type of things from websites I don’t know, but after reading a couple of his articles I thought “this guy knows what he’s talking about”, and finally got my copy. I can only say good things about it. It’s full of useful condensed information, updated weekly! It’s objective and unbiased, a little piece of jewelry in a sea of misleading and confusing info. I’m very grateful for the job Graham has done for all of us, and it has certainly helped me clear out my mind and, hopefully, make the right choice.” (Noelia, form Barcelona- Spain)

Hi Graham,
Thank you very much for the insightful book. It was very helpful. I thought your views on digital manufacturers building in acoustic piano flaws was quite amusing. It certainly is tough deciding what to buy as we seem to be spoilt for choice these days.

“Thanks for creating such a valuable resource”
Hi Graham,
I requested a copy of your book since my 17yr old Roland HP-330 was beginning to show some signs of age and I was concerned about electrical gremlins having potentially taken up residence within the tone generator in recent weeks, resulting in the piano developing a very disconcerting habit of momentarily ‘dropping’ the sustain every minute or so. Fortunately I initially started to hunt for the problem in an obvious place where mechanical stuff lives – the pedal box, and after removing the pedal-box itself and subsequently the affixed PCB there was clear evidence of physical wear to part of the sustain pedal where it had actually managed to make contact with the PCB assembly…. Following a quick switch of sustain and sostenuto pedal the piano is now back up and running perfectly, with no fouling of the PCB.
Whilst I should really be elated to see that my much-loved digital piano is once again performing perfectly I am (unfortunately for me) finding your Piano book to be a wonderful resource – and since catching up on the past decade of developments and marketing ploys within just a few short pages I am actually a little disappointed that I can no longer justify treating myself to a shiny new piano at this time…
Whereas I was previously content with my 17yr old HP-330 on the basis that its samples remain generally acceptable to my ears and a Kawai CS-9 (for example) currently weighs in at the £3000 mark (a price that my level of keyboard ability does not really justify), I am now in two minds as to whether fixing the HP330 was really a smart move on my part – since from what you have written I feel that I have been remiss not to consider pianos at a fraction of the CS-9 price point in the past!
Thanks for creating such a valuable resource; as, when and if I decide (or need) to upgrade I will definitely revisit “7 things” and will no doubt be in touch!
Best Regards,
Marcus

Your very thorough book is very helpful. I am the artistic director of a community chorus and our 20 year old Roland digital piano will soon need to be replaced. The information in your book is helping me educate some of the non-musicians on our board of directors as well as some of the singers and non-keyboardists about what a digital piano is and what features we need to consider. In fact, as a pianist and organist, I have learned a great deal of technical information from your book. Thank you for the research you have done and for presenting it in such a clear manner.

“As a total piano newbie, it helped me wade through the jungle of pianos out there”
This guide to piano buying really saved me!! I live in the US so did not really get to use the website recommendations but, as a total piano newbie, it helped me wade through the jungle of pianos out there.
I approached the piano store with confidence, could ask really pertinent questions & could also compare their pricing among models!
A really really useful guide, so thank you Graham and wish you much success!

“This made shopping a pleasant, stress-free experience”
Hi Graham,
It is a daunting prospect trying to match piano type, quality and affordability to the needs of a beginner and an experienced pianist. The guide was very helpful and clear and provided pointers to the important things
to consider and the questions to ask in the shop. This made shopping itself a pleasant, stress-free experience. We are both very pleased with our pianos and I thoroughly recommend the guide to anyone thinking of buying a piano.
Kind Regards

I had piano lessons as a 10 year old,I then turned to football so gave the lessons up.
I am now in my late 80 s and using a 61 key keyboard to learn again.
I am not quite happy with the piano sound on the keyboard, so I am looking to buy a digital piano around the 4 to 500 mark, it looks like your advice is for me.
thank you, Harry.
