Yamaha C110 Review
I bought the Yamaha C110 in May 2006 from a piano shop in central London. I was very happy with the price and the piano sounded great in the showroom. I have to admit that I was a little dissapointed when it was delivered to my home. It didn’t sound the same as it did in the piano shop! The sound was a lot weeker, maybe it has to do with my small room and heavy curtains and thick carpets, this is what I have been told by my piano tuner. I wish that I had spent a little more and bought a larger piano. This would have given me more volume, maybe the Yamaha U1 would have been the best choice.
Appearance 9/10
Sound Quality 6/10
Value for Money 5/10
Total Score 6.5/10
Yamaha B3 Silent Review
“Though b series is supposed to be for beginners, I am hoping it will continue satisfying me”
Thanks Graham for great tips. I really enjoyed reading the piano book, as
well as various reviews on the website.
Having read through, I went to Chappell to try CLP 340, 370 and 380. While
380 had the best touch, I could not justify paying significantly more for
it than 370, and the kind of price I can get an acoustic. As I used
headphones, I could not tell the difference in the sound. CLP370 had
better touch than 340 with the price gap justifiable for the extra for
myself. Thus I would have gone for 370 if I were to go for digital.
Then I went home and did some more net research.
As some people suggest those (like myself) planning to buy an acoustic piano
eventually should do so now instead, rather than “trading up” from digital,
and some point out those who really want the proper touch should go for
silent piano rather than digital, I went back to Chappell the next day to
try out Yamaha b series, as these caught my eyes for their affordability.
As soon as I touched b1, which is the cheapest in the series costing less
than CLP 380 at just over 3,000 with the silent equipment, I got the
sensation of the real touch of a piano. ( I was a serious player for over
15 years since I was 4, though I did not have chance to practice it again
for the past 20 years).
At that moment I decided there was no way I was going go get a digital.
I ended up buying b3 silent on the day, the best model among the
b series priced at just over 4,000 with the silent switch. You could
easily hear the difference in the depth of sounds between b3 vs b2 or b1.
P or U silent series not only have better sound but much more function
including recording, I could not stretch that much. Though b series is
supposed to be for beginners, I am hoping it will continue satisfying me
even after I catch up with long absence of practice. It will be good for
my daughter to start with her first lessons anyway.
Thanks again for sharing generously of your knowledge.

Yamaha YDP142 Reviews
“My son is delighted with the piano and the sound is very impressive”
I bought a Yamaha YDP 142 from UK Pianos based on cost and service reputation. The YDP 142 was a new model and I
pre ordered – it was delivered within the stated timescales and came with a stool and headphones which
saved the extra expense. Whilst I am not expecting the piano to go wrong the 5 warranty is great peace of mind.
My son is delighted with the piano and the sound is very impressive. I would not hesitate to recommend UK
Pianos.

“He is delighted with the piano”
Dear Graham,
Just to let you know that the Yamaha 142 digital piano, we ordered, arrived safely to my son’s address in Birmingham on Friday 23rd.August.As my son lives on the second floor, we decided to take it out of its substantial wrappings on the ground floor and take the piano parts up separately. This might not be recommended practice but the piano was so well wrapped that the packaging was quite weighty.
We set all the parts out, counted all the screws and read the instructions first for a change. Everything was there and the piano was very easy to assemble.
Within half an hour my son, Thomas, was able to sit down on the piano stool provided, plug in the headphones (provided) and play his first piece. Tom is making his way as a conductor with a number of good amateur orchestras and needed the piano to rehearse his scores.
He is delighted with the piano, lovely sound, good weighting on the keys and it will be of great help to him, hopefully for years to come.
Thank you very much the UK PIANOS TEAM for all your help, starting with the advice on what to look for in a digital piano, through to the delivery. Your team made the whole process a pleasure,

“I was impressed with the sound of the entry Yamaha”
We have bought the Arius Yamaha ydp142. My daughter is about to turn 7. Growing up, I always much preferred Technics and worked in a music shop part-time demonstrating and selling digital pianos while at school.
For me, the Yamaha always sounded more tinny and less ‘crisp’ and more like a synthesised sound, rather than a sample sound. With the keyboards and organs, I felt the same.
However, listening to the demonstrations on YouTube etc and reading your guide, I went for as much polyphonic sound as I could get with my budget. I was impressed with the sound of the entry Yamaha.
The bottom notes need to sound like a baby grand. I think Yamaha has invested heavily in creating far more credible sounds.
I appreciate your offer of suggestions. My second choice would have been a Kawai.

“I purchased a Yamaha Arius YDP142 purely on the grounds of cost”
Graham, I found your advice useful. The fact that I chose to go against it is entirely another matter. I ended up buying a Yamaha Arius YDP142 purely on the grounds of cost as the other half was unconvinced that I would see it through.
After two years or so of trying to play, I can detect no difference in “feel” between the Yamaha 142 and the Clavinova owned by my teacher. I have tried a conventional acoustic piano and much prefer the feel through the keys and find it easier to modulate volume and musical feeling but the sound it produces is in my view inferior “pound for pound.

“The sound from the speakers is really thin”
Hello Graham,
We just bought the YDP 142R, in a local store here in Curitiba (Brazil)
My son is a piano student (1st grade), he´s loving the piano. First i was keen on the Roland F120, but after a few reviews I’ve read on your site and others, i went to the store and tried the Yamaha and felt better than the F120.
My son is loving it, but he told me the keys are not heavy like the upright Essenfelder piano he plays at music school. Anyway he´s loving it, the sounds are new to him (he loves the strings)
For me, as a hobbyist, was very important to have MIDI, and i’m enjoying it. Feels good, but i miss the real sound of the upright piano i’m used to (i had one at home for a year, not ours)
The YDP 142 has a nice feel, but the sound from the speakers is really thin. And i really miss the dynamics of the real piano – but… i don’t think i paid a low price.

“I received the Yamaha Arius YDP162 in rosewood this morning and I am delighted.”
I have been in the UK for 1 year and was looking to buy a piano since I have been there. I have been playing for 13 years and was therefore looking for a piano that would be a suitable match between my budget and my skills.
After talking with Graham, by Email and then in the shop it was crystal clear for me, I knew which digital piano was the more suitable for me. I received the Yamaha Arius YDP162 this morning and I am delighted.
I would recommend UK pianos to anyone who’s planning to buy a piano.

“The Yamaha YDP162 looks good and sounds great”
First impressions of the Yamaha YDP162 Arius digital piano.
Downloaded and consulted your very good Seven things you must know…
Made a short list and thought about Yamaha YDP 141 and 161. Read many reviews, including those on UK Pianos and decided on 161. In the meantime Yamaha introduced model YDP 162 and we chose this after giving it the once over at a local music warehouse.
We decided to purchase from UK Pianos since they were offering a good deal and delivery time.
This YDP162 exactly suits our purpose: one expert, one reasonable and one beginner and three interested toddlers. The YDP162 is good looking and sounds great, especially when played through the hifi amp and speakers. In the experts opinion it is a delight to play on.
The YDP162C (light cherry) came bundled with stool (rosewood) and the contrast is very nice. The headphones were delivered by post a few days later. they appear to be of good quality and quite comfortable to wear, though I am no expert in these matters.
The service from UK pianos was good. Although my purchase was acknowledged immediately by email there was only mention of the extended warranty on the UK pianos website. We were advised of delivery time and this was confirmed by a telephone call, so full marks for that. Love the YDP 162, and a very pleasant experience so far.

“The winner was YDP 162”
I had to buy a piano for my wife who started to study a school for kindergarten teachers – they have 2 years of obligatory piano lectures. I wanted something relatively cheap as I am not sure that she will continue learning piano after the final exam. On the other hand I wanted the piano to be good enough to allow her to learn proper technique. I cannot play piano myself, so I had to scan Czech musical forums for opinions.
The most praised piano types in the forums were the Yamaha Clavinova and Arius types. Given my budget (an average monthly salary in my country) and the price in Czech shops I decided to narrow my search to YDP 141, YDP 161, YDP 142 and YDP 162 types.
Afer trying them in a local shop I found that the keyboards of the lower types (YDP 141 and YDP 142) were displeasingly soft, so I decided to focus only on YDP 161 and YDP 162.
The newer YDP 162 type has nicer cabinet, “ivory” keytops, and generally feels better. Also its piano sound is more realistic. Unfortunately, I found its sound rather unpleasant. It is not a problem of the loudspeakers, but rather a problem in the sound generation. I guess it is omitting or blurring some frequencies I am used to hear in the real instruments. Nevertheless, the winner is YDP 162.

“I am amazed at the quality of sound”
Good morning Graham.
It’s been just over a week since I received my Yamaha YDP162R, thank you for the delivery promise.
I haven’t played the piano for about 25 years, I got to grade 7 all that time ago and intend to get back there! I find this piano extremely pleasing and I am amazed at the quality of sound. I have got stuck into practicing using the default setting and haven’t even touched any of the other functions yet! I guess I will try these out when I get more competent. The default setting sounds very close to the piano sound I was used to years ago, I have considered softening the keys but don’t want to do this and then find playing an acoustic would be too tough (considering I am building the strength back into my fingers and its getting easier). So I have left the setting on the default which I think is medium
I can’t fault the YDP162 so far and cant praise it enough!

“Yamaha have done a remarkable job in making a lovely instrument”
Dear Graham,
After a close study of your free, unbiased literature on the subject of digital pianos, I received my Yamaha YDP162 a few days ago, and I’m greatly enjoying the experience of getting to know it, and slowly ,but slowly improving my playing skills from a modest base.
The piano arrived as a flatpack on the day expected. This was only the day after approval of the interest-free loan was given. The substantial packaging was eminently suitable, and no transit damage had occurred. I must say that, if I needed ever to return the instrument, I would find it almost impossible to fit it back in its box- despite there being pictorial instructions printed on the box itself! The packaging was also voluminous, so storing it would have been a problem, too! Assembly was very straightforward, and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. My electric screwdriver came in most useful, saving an awful lot of twisting…..
The assembled instrument (YDP162PE in polished ebony finish) looks a beautiful piece of furniture. The only downside I can find lies in the cheap construction of the plastic feet. Although the piano will not be subject to a great deal of shifting about my flat, the feet do not take kindly to being moved across a smooth laminated floor. I needed to cut a pair of suitably-shaped pieces of old carpet to place under the feet. I feel that Yamaha could have spent a few extra pounds in providing more substantial feet, perhaps of wood or ply, finished in the same way as the rest of the instrument. Failing that, then at least in providing flat soles to each foot to allow some felt pads to be stuck in place.
Musically, the piano sounds very like the real thing; less realistic are the other sounds it is capable of producing- but these are of minor concern to me.The most important point I wish to make is that the weighting of the keys is just about right. Getting used to the touch sensitivity will take a little more time, and the more esoteric feature of damper resonance I feel I could leave to more expert players.
I am minded of the early days of hi-fi sound reproduction, when manufacturers fell over backwards to convince us that listening to their particular brand of equipment was like being in the concert hall with the performers. Nonsense, of course, but just as there is no substitute for a live concert, there is also no substitute for a proper grand piano. To my ear, I have found no digital instrument that comes close to the real thing- both in terms of touch and sound.
As you hintede in your most helpful literature, Yamaha have done a remarkable job in making the YDP162 a lovely instrument, and one with which I hope to enjoy many years of acquaintance and musical experience.
Many thanks, Long Life to UK Pianos!

“What can I say? Absolutely amazing!”
Hi Graham,
I purchased the Yamaha YDP162 from your store. I have always wanted to learn to play the piano. Recently a range of events lead to me deciding to go for it and the quest to find a good piano commenced. An acoustic piano was very tempting, but quite a risk as I had never played before. The large sum and costs of tuning and maintenance was also a factor. Through the UK Piano’s website (and your book) I was able to learn/understand what all the fuss was about with digital pianos. You certainly convinced me! I initially chose the classenti CDP1, but then through further research chose the YDP162. What can I say? Absolutely amazing! I have been playing for at least an hour every day since I received the instrument, and I am still loving it! Even to play scales is an absolute joy. I will certainly consider possibly even upgrading in the future
Can I also point out that you had run out of the free stool that was suppose to have come with the YDP162, and was pleasantly surprised when you had offered an even better piano stool at a fraction of the price! I would also like to say how friendly and good natured the guys that had delivered the piano were, not to mention the speed of delivery!

“She is delighted with the YDP162”
Although I never actually purchased a piano from UK Pianos (I had to select a local store where I could collect),
Graham was very helpful and provided much assistance, including supply of the guide “7 things you need to know
before buying a digital piano”. This guide was very useful since I am not the musician, I was interested in
purchasing a digital piano as a surprise present for my wife and the guide allowed me to have meaningful
conversations with music stores (a little knowledge goes a long way as they say!).
She is delighted with the choice I made.
Thanks Graham.

“The most important metric for me was the key feel”
Hi Graham,
Thanks a lot for the information that you freely provide. It played a key part in the piano that I chose to purchase.
Based on your reviews and your manual I know I might the right decision for the level I am at and the budget available.
I chose to purchase the Yamaha YDP162. I am new to piano and started taking lessons a few months ago.
I noticed quite a profound difference between the keyboard I have at home and the piano I play at the lesson and hence
the most important metric for me was the key feel.
I wanted something that closely models a real piano, but that still comes in at an affordable prize.

“I can’t believe how good it is”
Hi Graham,
I am extremely happy with the piano though I haven’t had as much time on it as I had hoped.
I found the information on your website refreshingly impartial and I tried some pianos at my local piano shop after following your advice I believe, to try out and see, and I’m so glad I did. If I hadn’t done that I would probably picked the wrong one for me.
At my local shop I could not get the 5 year warranty which was the most important thing for me – and at home service to boot! The piano stool and headphones was yet another bonus. I also prefer to buy from people who really understand what they’re selling.
I got email replies from you really promptly and also a quick and courteous telephone response from another member of the team.
If I hadn’t seen your site I probably would never have tried out a digital piano as I thought they would be a big disappointment compared to the real thing and I rarely get the chance to get on a real piano which is sad as I spent many hours since I was a teenager getting up to a decent technical level such as Mephisto Waltz, Chopin Etudes etc but now on a decent instrument I can work at other higher aspects of playing and can do it any time of day or night! Even Three Blind Mice sounds great and I don’t have to just play fast to get a thrill.
I can’t believe how good it is.
It’s given me a lot of encouragement.

I didn’t realised you had written the digital piano bible until after I’d made my purchase through your site (chosen because of the near unanimous glowing reviews from across the internet).
Fortunately, I’d already done quite a lot of research and tried out various electric pianos over the last few months so was confident in my choice of the Yamaha YDP-162 and, seeing its ranking in your bible, I am relieved to see you agree.

“The service at your store was beyond expectations”
Hi Graham,
thanks for getting in touch. About the piano, nothing to say, it is just perfect for our needs. Me and my wife were looking for a digital (compact) piano, not too expensive but as close as possible to a classical one in terms of key feeling and tones. The Yamaha YDP 162 was our first choice after reading the reviews in internet (including the one on your site) and when we actually tried it, well we were not disappointed. The quality of sound and the keyboard are just like a classical one, at least that’s what my wife says as i am my self a total beginner. It also looks very cosy at home, no doubt we are proud of our purchase and enjoy playing.
I would like to highlight the fact that the service at your store was beyond expectations, thanks a lot to your stuff for arranging the delivery on the next day, it was really nice to have the piano at home so quickly.

“The Yamaha YDP-162 piano is very good”
Good delivery service that arrived on the day arranged. The piano stool was replaced in the absence of the default one upgraded with a height adjustable stool at the same price, kind offer of the ukpianos company. My daughters and I assembled the pieces by reading the instructions written on the box, and waited for my husband to tighten the screws and to fix together the two big final pieces.
The Yamaha YDP-162 piano is very good, my daughters enjoyed it, my husband started to take piano lessons too, and I like to put the demo songs on when we have guests!

“The difference over the YDP-142 was immediately apparent and worth the extra £300”
Hi Graham
I found your digital piano guide extremely useful and informative. There are so many makes and types it is difficult to reach a decision.
Before I read your guide I was convinced that the Yamaha DGX-650 was the one for me, but I didn’t really want all those bells and whistles.
I had, until my recent move from the London area to the west country, owned conventional pianos but wanted an instrument which would have a smaller footprint and be more manageable to move around if necessary.
After reading your guide I favoured the YDP-142 or the Broadway B1. I also sought the advice of a cousin who teaches music and has some experience of digital pianos. He advised against buying something too ‘cheap’ and the need to spend £700 to £1200 for a reasonable instrument.
If I lived closer to London I would have come along to your store to compare the different models but living in the south-west it was easier to go along to Exeter where there are 2 stores with a good selection of digital pianos.
I tried out the YDP-142, which was good until I then turned to the model next to it which was the YDP-162. The difference was immediately apparent and was worth the extra £300. I have now taken delivery of the YDP-162 in light cherry, which looks good with our furniture, complete with matching stool and headphones. I am very pleased with the instrument, it is great fun to play and even feels like a conventional piano.
There are just enough functions to add extra interest without needing a degree to understand how it all works.
The headphones are useful as the piano is in a large lounge which also houses the TV and I am sure it will give me many hours of fun.

“The advice that we got was so helpful”
I thought that the information on your website was extremely helpful to my husband and I – neither of us play the piano, and my daughters’ piano playing is going in the direction of grades and as she was only playing on a little Yamaha keyboard she needed to upgrade to a real piano.
The advice that we got from the site and the shop in Enfield when we made the pilgrimage down was so helpful – being naive pianists (!) we didn’t have a clue before we started out.
We feel that we been guided and advised appropriately and have achieved the right compromise between quality and cost for my daughters current and future requirements.
We were particularly grateful to the loan of headphones to my daughter (aged 7) so that she could try out the pianos in a less public way… In other piano shops we were not offered this simple solution to getting my child past her initial “stage fright” allowing us to help her feel comfortable with the enormity of the process.
Thank you very much.
We look forward to Saturday and the arrival of our new piece of furniture and look forward to the many years of pleasure that it is no doubt going to give us.
I may even try to may time to learn myself after she has gone to bed!

As you will see I have made my choice! I checked up on the sound of the Classenti and the Roland (I’ve played these before in church and at school – ok but not as good as) and the Yamaha.
I loved the sound of the Yamaha ydp162 and so I’ve ended up spending about a third more than I planned but hey it’s an investment, I will be really happy with it instead of ‘making do’ and not
entirely satisified – and for something that is going to be in my house for a long time that’s just not good enough for me.
I am really looking forward to receiving the piano and being able to play with my husband and friends.
You offer an excellent service, and I am very pleased to be spending my money with you.
Best wishes

“I was really pleased with the service”
I was really pleased with the service provided by Graham and UK Pianos. The team were friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived in the showroom, and helped to select an appropriate choice of piano, ydp162, from a few potential models that I was considering. Delivery was made swiftly and on the planned date and I’m now up and running with my new Yamaha. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone considering a piano purchase.
Thanks

A huge thank you to Nigel for assembling our piano, what a lovely kind spirited man he is.
Our Yamaha YDP162 in polished ebony looks and sounds fantastic.
Most of all – with the team at UK pianos being able to meet the tight turnaround, I was able to completely surprise my daughter with this unexpected gift.

“Honourable honest musicians selling world class pianos”
Slightly damaged New Digital Piano but service was 100% and problem fixed within a day
We purchased a YDP-162 for my very young daughters and myself . On arrival it was set up and the delivery man Nigel kindly helped me do this. Minutes after he left I noticed a fleck of blue paint across the black keys. This was a new piano opened in front of me direct from Yamaha. I ran out and asked Nigel to return as i didn’t want to accept it. The fault was very minor but this was a significant purchase for our family and we wanted it to be perfect. We spoke to the shop. They decided to leave the piano with us and return the next day with a new keyboard to be inserted from another new piano in storage locally. I used to live in Enfield and i am now only 25 minutes away so I know the shop and its excellent reputation. I trusted them and wasnt concerned about what had happened. The fault was with Yamaha who are also an excellent business to deal with regardless. I know for some people purchasing online this would be the moment of panic when the driver leaves you with the goods and drives off with a promise of bringing another piano back. The next day at 7.30am the new piano was delivered and a new piano seat as we wanted to upgrade to a deeper one.
Excellent service and customers should be confident to do such a high priced purchase online. This business has only survived for as long as it has because they are honourable honest musicians selling world class pianos. I wish they had more piano books in the shop though! long gone are the days when you could browse for hours through music books.

“Nobody sells Broadway in Australia, so I bought YDP162”
Hi Graham,
Thank you for touching base.
My 1st choice was the Broadway B1 however no one sells them in Western Australia so I have decided to buy Yamaha YDP162.
I have found a piano store in Perth, Western Australia that sells the Yamaha piano however it is more money than I can
spend right now so I am going to buy it in a few months after I have saved up some money.
I debated about going with a less expensive model and decided against it and am willing to wait till I have enough money saved.
Graham, your digital piano buyer’s guide and supporting information was a tremendous help in my selection process.
I thank you for all your time and assistance. I would have bought my piano from you if you shipped to Western Australia!

“The piano is great, the music stand is pathetic”
Dear Graham,
Received the piano in perfect condition and remarkably quickly. The French delivery driver would not help me carry it up the stairs but that wasn’t the fault of UK PIANOS.
The piano is great, the music stand is pathetic in that anything of any size, including the book you supplied, just falls off !
Thank you

“The Yamaha 162 sounded as good as you said and so I bought it”
Dear Graham,
I received your booklet on digital pianos several months ago which was very, very informative.
The only thing stopping me buying a piano was your advice not to buy before you have seen and
getting round to driving up to Enfield from East London.
I visited the uk pianos store in enfield on Friday.
The Yamaha 162 sounded as good as you said and so I bought it.
It was delivered and set this Tuesday, (by excellent delivery men), and I am busy following
a beginners guide to playing. As it is my retirement present from my place of work I have
plenty of time to spend on it.
Thank you again for your advice, I would not have known where to start otherwise.

“I am absolutely delighted with it!”
Hello Graham,
I bought the Yamaha 162, and had it installed this week. I am absolutely delighted with it! So I owe you a very big thank you for your tremendous effort in
making digital pianos known to the public. I spent some hours reading all your stuff and in the morning simply told my wife “we are getting the 162.”
Later in the week we were in Edinburgh, so we visited shop and ordered it immediately.
The main reason for buying the 162 rather than the 142 was the reply you made to a question “The specs on the 142 are almost identical to the 162, why pay £200 more.” You said “The 142 sounds tinny, and you will regret it.” Quite right, the 162 sounds great.
So, many thanks, and I have already passed on your web site to two friends.

“Better than expected, really happy with it”
Hi Graham,
I received the piano and the headphones, thanks very much for following up.
It is a beautiful piece, better than expected, really happy with it. I can’t wait to receive the stool to complete the set.
I did notice a couple of defects upon opening – there was a very slight scratch on the top of the piano lid, and also a slight unevenness (a section was raised a bit) where the long metal strip / hinge joins the wood. But these defects are quite minor and can only be noticed upon close scrutiny that I didn’t think they were worth the hassle of mentioning / asking for a replacement. It’s still a beautiful piece regardless.
Also, (I’ve been asked to mention) the piano got delivered on a saturday despite being advised of a friday delivery and having had asked my husband to take time off work on the day. Saying that, we did appreciate the effort you guys made on making an urgent saturday delivery, and it was delivered early next morning – so in all, no problem caused.
Overall, I am very happy with the service you have provided – in particular your flexibility and generosity with the package – we ended up being able to get the items we liked. We were just about to purchase from Rimmers but thankfully I saw your site and got swayed by all the fantastic service reviews — and I’m certain we’ve made the right choice.
Thanks and regards,

Yamaha CLP525 Reviews
“We are delighted with the CLP525!”
Dear Graham,
Thank you so much for all the extremely useful and up-to-date information you provided me with re digital pianos.
I needed the info to buy my daughter a piano for her home in Leander, Austin, Texas. I myself have an acoustic yamaha which I bought in Hong Kong where I was living and working in the 1980s, and brought to UK, so my understanding of the digital side of things was zero!
Armed with your information, I flew to Texas and took my daughter to her music shop in Austin – ‘Strait music’ – where we were shown their collection of instruments. A very helpful and knowledgeable salesman gave us time and opportunity to play through the collection; we ended up with a Yamaha CLP525 and had it delivered and set up. We are delighted with it!
So we both send you our thanks, and if I ever treat myself to another piano, I shall certainly make sure I touch base with you again!!
A very Happy New Year for 2015.

“I would gladly do business with you again!”
Hello Graham!
After around a year of research and saving money I finally bought my first piano at the age of 38! Well I’ve been meaning to do it for a while….
I used your website constantly for reference and advise. When I was ready to purchase, my friend and I travelled from Southampton to Enfield to buy it. There were other piano shops closer to home but I felt with all the information and honest reviews you freely provided, there was nowhere else I wanted to go.
I had it in mind to buy the Yamaha CLP535 but wanted to talk to some experts before finally deciding. Apparently your online advice had been spot on and I had made a good choice. The two gentlemen who worked in the shop and spent time with us were brilliant and helped as much as I needed without being pushy. (I think I got a glimpse of you walking through the shop but I wasn’t sure!) We did a deal on an ex display model and I brought it home with me that day. The piano is gorgeous! My piano teacher is jealous and it’s amazing how many family and friends can play the odd piece! I never knew my mum learned piano as a child but hasn’t played it since, you should have heard her play!
I would like to thank you very much for all your online information. I would also like to thank your staff for their customer service and care. I doubt I will be updating the piano anytime soon which is a shame, I would gladly do business with you again!
Many thanks, Becky Tuxworth, Southampton

“I am sure the CLP545 will fulfil my expectations!”
I’ve ordered a new Yamaha CLP545 from a Yamaha dealer in Glasgow where I live.
I haven’t owned a digital piano before and your guide was very useful, with respect to interpreting the specifications, shortlisting manufacturers and models, and how to test.
I selected this model having tested the various CLP models in a few dealers in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I negotiated a package that was very competitive on price and had various quite valuable extras included, e.g. uplift of my old acoustic from a top floor flat!
I’d rather not divulge the particular dealer or the price – these are private matters, but I would like to thank you for your help. I am sure the CLP545 will fulfil my expectations!

“I felt the keys gave the impression of playing a real piano”
I currently I bought a digital piano Yamaha CLP-545.
Your guide has helped me a lot to choose the piano.
I love the feel of the keys, really when I closed my eyes I felt the keys gave the impression of playing a real piano.
Moreover, the tone is the best among the pianos that had at my disposal at a local store.
I love the sound of the alterntive Bosendorfer piano voice.
I also love the sound of “jazz piano.”
Although I do not like the sound of the steel guitar.
Again thanks for the impartial help with your “Digital Piano Bible”

“At least I haven’t wasted my money”
Hi Graham
I am enjoying my new piano, it has a nice bounce to the keys, a softer touch compared to the old one. I have noticed that my six year old is practising more now on this new piano than the old one. I think she finds the sound and touch more enjoyable. At least I haven’t wasted my money then!
For parents who want their kids to practise and enjoy playing the piano, my advice for them is to get a good keyboard like this one (if they can afford it)!

Yamaha CLP585 Reviews
“It feels very different from the other CLPs I tried, with a much more realistic touch”
I finally decided on my digital piano and purchased it yesterday.
• Model: Yamaha CLP 585
• Shop: Music 3000 in Nice, France
• Main reason explained below. You are free to share or format this info.
I wanted a digital piano to be as close as possible to the touch and sound of an acoustic one. I had a budget of max 4000 euro. I spent quite some time in local shops to check various models.
I started by trying out some hybrid pianos, I was in fact fascinated by the Yamaha Avantgrand N2, but the price (12,000 euro) was well beyond my budget and my skills. The only “hybrid” option which would fit in my budget was the new Yamaha NU1, but I was not impressed with it, I found it had uneven sound and response….. didn’t really fall in love with it.
So, giving up on hybrid pianos, I had a look at Yamaha CLP series and Roland HP, namely the two “top of line” models, CLP 585 and HP 508.
Now, for some reason the local dealer had no CLP 585 in stock but only other CLP models (575, 545), so my short list, after some tests, was CLP 575 and HP 508. They were both good, but none of them was completely satisfactory. However, having to select between them, I would have gone for the Roland HP508.
Fortunately recently the dealer received some Yamaha CLP 585 and I could try one. I was very impressed, it feels very different from the other CLPs I tried, with a much more realistic touch.
I did a side by side test between CLP 585 and HP508 and, both from the touch and even more from the (piano) sound perspective, my choice was the CLP, which I bought for little less than 4000 euro.
I will receive the new piano in a couple of days and trade back my old and glorious Roland FP4 (which, by the way, has been a great instrument to start with and worked for 6 years without a problem).
Bottom line: The Yamaha CLP 585 seems to me a big leap forward from the rest of the CLP series, and stands in a category of its own, probably one of the best non-hybrid digital pianos as per response and sound.
