I bought a Nord piano (bought for 1950 EUR) about five months ago from Finland (I’m Finnish). Yeah, and sorry about my English – hope you’ll understand me A bit over my initial price range which was about 1200 +- 200 EUR. I just wanted a digital PIANO – not a synth etc. The by far most important feature in a digital piano for me is the sound quality of the acoustic pianos, period. I’ve always played guitar but piano is quite new for me. I’ve played piano 1,5 years.
The Nord’s action is just great FOR ME. Some Rolands and Yamahas might have a bit more authentic action IMHO but I do like the Nord Pianos action. I find it very easy and fun to play. Also the build quality and user interface is just great. It’s really easy to operate even while playing. Light weight (18 kg) is a big plus.
However the best part about the Nord Piano has to be it’s sound quality. The acoustic and electric pianos truly sound great. I didn’t even realize how important the sound quality is for me. When I was testing different digital pianos I noticed very early that I liked the Nord’s sound more. I kept playing it a lot more than the others. It’s just more fun when you have great sounding piano.
I’ve even played on a couple of gigs and I’ve been very happy with my Nord Piano. So it works great on live use.. BUT – I don’t usually play organ except when I’m playing with a band. I’ve had to attach my Nord Piano to my laptop to get the organ sounds. I’m glad I need organs very rarely. So for my use the organ sounds are basically the only thing I’ve been missing from the Nord Piano. Also it doesn’t have any layering, splits, synths etc. but I haven’t missed those features – but who knows… maybe I’ll need those in the feature. It could also have more memory. Now it’s only 512MB. 1GB would be great. This way I could have all the great sounding acoustic pianos there. Even though I mainly only use two (or three) piano samples it would be nice to have all the 13 acoustic piano samples there. Now I’ve fitted three grand pianos, one upright, six e-pianos, one e-grand, a clavinet and a harpsichord.
PROS: sound quality, build quality, light weight, replaceable sounds, user interface, pedalCONS: only pianos (e.g. no organ), more memory (512MB –> 1GB)
I’ve read some reviews as well – I agree with everything.
