“Yamaha Clavinova CVP87A has stopped working”
We had a burst pipe in the loft last January when I was away at my daughter’s home and 2/3 of the house was flooded. The piano did not get wet but was in the house for several days and it was very cold and very damp. We moved it out into storage, along with all of the other furniture but nine months later when we brought it back it would not switch on. A man has been to look at it and diagnosed water vapour has damaged the mother board. Stripping it off lids and exposing it to a warm house my being able to switch it on and play it but for only for about two minutes before it went off again.
He came back and tried ‘the hairdryer treatment’ to no effect. Yamaha have told him they no longer make the mother board for this machine. The piano is perfect in every other respect – except it won’t switch on…

We have spilt a small amount of milk (half inch in the bottom of a pint glass) onto the keyboard of our GEM Real piano GRP 800 Digital Baby Grand. Some keys in the area of spillage are silent, others overloud. I’ve switched off and removed power. Can you please advise on action. We live in Bushey, Herts WD23 3AS.

This is regarding Yamaha CLP535 digital piano.
Date of purchase 15/6/2016
The middle of the piano, particularly middle C and the E to the right of it, do not sound correctly. When played softly they will suddenly sound with max volume. This happens at a certain pressure and makes the piano unplayable for recordings. The other keys seem fine.
We have already transferred all the piano files onto a flash drive and done 2 factory resets. The keys still don’t sound correctly. Wondering how to resolve the problem quickly as the piano is needed for an exam recording.
Reply/ Dear Suresh
It looks like the key contacts and/or rubber contact strips
underneath the keyboard either need replacing or cleaning.
Sometimes dust can get underneath the keys.
Please let us have your phone number and postcode.

We have a Gem RP700 digital piano which has stopped working. The light indicates it is on but there is no sound from the keys. Nothing has been spilt in it or knocked it so we assume a part has worn out. Could you please contact Terry, your recommended digital piano expert, for us and ask if he could give us a quote for trying to fix it? We think it may be the small green circuit board which connects to the keys. We’ve tried taking out connectors to this and putting them back in but no response.
Reply/ Dear Dave
It is unlikely there are any spare parts for this piano.
It was discontinued many years ago, and Gem is
no longer making digital pianos.
I’ve sent Terry your details and asked him to get in touch with you.
If your piano is not repairable, then we can offer you part exchange
on a new piano, as we can probably use some of the parts for future repairs.
Just let us know if you’re interested in this.
Kind regards
Graham Howard

Hi Graham,
If my digital piano isn’t repairable I would be interested in trading, although I hope that it is! I am thinking of buying an upright piano anyway, but would like this one to be repaired in the short term if possible.
Thank you again, Laura

Hi Graham,
I’m struggling with my Classenti CPD3 and wonder if you can help:
I haven’t played in a while and, when I sat down today to play, found it’s out of tune. I can’t imagine this is something that happens with digital pianos? Maybe I accidentally pressed the option to transpose as some point as I can’t think how else it could have happened – I assume digital pianos don’t go out of tune?
Anyway: I can’t work out how to set it back so I think my best option is a factory reset. I’ve no idea how to do this as the manual is on a disc and I have no laptop/pc that will take a disc. Do you have a copy? Or any advice?
Many thanks for your help.
Reply/ Hi Naomi
You need to turn the piano off.
Then simultaneously hold down the right pedal and the last key (key number 88) on the right side of the piano.
Keeping both the pedal and the key held down, then turn the piano on.
This should re-set it.
If it doesn’t fix the problem, then you will need to get a technician to have a look at it.
Just let me know if you would like a recommendation.
Regards

Just wanted to write to thank you again for the job you did on my Korg SV-1, all the keys are fixed, work perfect and the exterior has been very nicely cleaned. The knobs, which were also slightly wobbling have been taken care of and I have been doing virtual recordings with colleagues since I got it back, so happy!!

I have used UK Pianos excellent website for information and advice in the past. When my Yamaha Clavinova CVP509 began to suffer from noise issues on one or two keys I searched the internet for someone to repair it but without success. I checked out UK Pianos to see if they had any suggestions and they recommended Terry. He is based in North London but came to me in Surrey and duly repaired the problem. My piano now sounds as good as new. He was very thorough, professional and personable and I would highly recommend him for any digital piano repairs. Philip Todd
