You can find a list of piano teachers in the UK here that can teach you how to play classical, jazz, blues, or Boogie Woogie piano. If you want to learn piano, first you need a piano teacher.
You can find online piano lessons on the internet and try to learn by yourself, but it is not recommended. You need a piano teacher to at least get you started on the right road. A piano teacher will make sure that you learn the basics and don’t develop any bad habits that could haunt you later.

I am an experienced travelling piano tutor, with specific knowledge of tutoring with both institutions and privately. I have a BMus in Music from Royal Holloway, University of London and am pursuing postgraduate studies in musicology at King’s College London. My tuition is tailored to individual student’s needs and abilities and my students work towards recognised ABRSM graded qualifications. The majority of my experience has been working with children aged six to nineteen, and I am well versed in working with absolute beginners and have the necessary patience and empathy to ensure that at any age a beginner feels supported and encouraged.
I particularly enjoy travelling tuition as I believe by learning in their own comfortable home environment students are likely to have increased confidence in their study. I think it is important to be an approachable, empathetic and engaging teacher, as when students enjoy their lessons they are more likely to dedicate the effort required to learn effectively.

Lots of Teaching Experience: In fact, in addition to teaching instrumental lessons, I am a classroom music teacher (Secondary 12-18 years) for most of the week (therefore fully CRB checked).
Versatile Musician: able to teach popular, jazz and classical music (currently playing with a soul/jazz grouping).
Individualised Lessons: I tailor my lessons to meet the needs of each pupil’s musical preferences and learning style.
Qualified: PGCE Music (Secondary) [IOE], MA Music (Goldsmiths College) [Distinction]. Piano (Grade 8), Tenor Horn (Grade 8), Music Theory (Grade 8), and Recorder (Grade 5).
In addition: I am also a skilled improviser (having played with jazz bands and pop groupings), have very strong music technology skills (Sibelius, Reason, Cubase and Logic) and have learnt skills on the Bodhran, Irish Tin Whistle, and Trumpet through informal learning.
Life-Long Learning: As a teacher, I set an example of life-long learning for my students through my own enthusiasm towards learning musical skills and by not being afraid to learn alongside the pupils. Whilst teaching in schools, I have learnt skills on the Drum Kit and Guitar. I believe that music teachers should engage with the pupils as musicians and learners themselves– revealing to students the processes of how musicians learn and most importantly, emphasising enjoyment.

Personal description: I am a well-established teacher with thirty years’ experience in private piano tuition. Teaching is very important to me, and it has always been a major part of my career as a musician. I have always very much enjoyed opening the door of the world of music for pupils, and helping them develop so that they reach their musical goals, whether that is passing an exam or playing some pieces they have always wanted to play. Given my long experience as a professional musician, I am able to offer a varied range of tuition which includes:
• Studying classical piano with in-depth work on piano technique and keyboard performance skills;
• Preparation for exams (all grades);
• Learning to play light/popular music which includes learning about, and playing from, chord symbols;
• Studying jazz piano, which covers development in areas including (a) learning how to improvise; (b) understanding jazz chords and how to use them; (c) learning to improvise in four important styles – blues, swing, Latin and mainstream-modern;
• Tuition for Associated Board jazz piano exams.
I teach pupils at all levels from beginner to experienced player. Lessons are given in my music room, using my fine Weber grand piano.
Lessons are once a week or once a fortnight, based on a termly arrangement.

I teach lessons which are fun, engaging, active and dynamic. You need to be prepared for some ‘enthusiastic’ techniques!
You lead your own learning, deciding which direction you want to take. In lessons, you don’t just come along for an hour, play and then leave… you are actively involved in your learning process. This approach keeps you in control and has a high success rate.
I also enter students into Trinity and ABRSM exams, all of whom have passed successfully.
I have been teaching piano, keyboards, singing and music theory privately and in schools since 2004. I have performed and taught many different styles of music so you can be in to classical, popular, musical theatre or jazz.
My qualifications are: PGCE (Secondary Music), BA Hons in Music, LTCL in Instrumental Teaching, Grade 8 Piano, Grade 8 Singing, Grade 8 Music Theory, Grade 8 Vocals.

I’m based in Formby, Liverpool L37 and I travel to most of my students’ homes to provide lessons which are fun and flexible. I have over 29 years of playing experience and almost 20 years of private tuition experience. I achieved my ABRSM Grade 8 and I’m happy to work on exams but most of my pupils simply want to play the music they enjoy. This ranges from Classical to Jazz, Film and TV themes, popular chart music, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s; whatever you want!
I’ve taught children as young as 2 (yes, you read that correctly) and up to those in their 90’s. Complete beginners are especially welcome as are those who are re-starting.
I have an Enhanced Disclosure (CRB) and offer a free trial lesson.
Private music tuition is my full time profession so you can be sure that I have your interests at heart. Here is one of many testimonials that I can provide:
“Anna’s enthusiasm for playing the piano is a testament to the huge enjoyment she gets out of Peter’s lessons. In the 18 months Peter has been teaching her to play she has grown into a confident and competent pianist. The lessons are varied, fun and entertaining.”
Lessons available morning, afternoon, evening and weekends! £11 per half hour lesson.

Maureen Mclaughlin
Maureen studied piano at the Junior Department of the Royal College of
Music, and has a degree in performance and music history from Manchester
University. She particularly enjoys teaching the piano to adults from
complete beginner to Grade 8. Maureen has a PGCE and taught music at
secondary school for several years. She has several years of experience in
teaching the piano to all age-groups.
Maureen realised that there are many adults who would like to learn the
piano, or resurrect a forgotten skill from their childhood, but feel a bit
intimidated by the idea. She has an encouraging approach, and understands
how nervous pupils can be when they first start their lessons – it’s quite
normal! From her experience, learning music can be a joyful and rewarding
pastime whatever your age or level of ability, and her pupils all enjoy
their lessons and can see the progress they are making.
Maureen always encourage pupils to discuss their progress with her and she
tries to adapt the lessons to suit individual tastes as well as exploring
the wider repertoire. Most of her pupils study a mixture of styles from
Classical to light popular and jazzy styles.
