Roland HP203 Reviews
The sound quality is warm and full on all the main instrumental sounds (I haven’t played about with the other 200 or so) and I felt that the sound on the HP203 was better than the Yamaha models costing four times as much. I felt they lacked a natural, emotional sound (they seemed too perfect and manufactured a little).
The keys feel nicely weighted and are responsive and accurate to play. They do not feel exactly like a ‘real’ piano but I’ve yet to play a digital that does.
The pedals have good feel and are not too strenuous on your ankles although I felt that when you release the pedal the sound can sometimes stop a little abruptly (cancelling the illusion of an acoustic sound).
I have been learning a slow(ish) piece by Japanese composer/performer Tempei Nakamura called ‘Ichigo Ichie’ and through the Roland it sounds even more emotive than when I play it on the acoustic pianos at my schools (although most of them are quite old and not expertly cared for).
In conclusion, I would like to say that I am thoroughly satisfied by my choice of piano and am glad that I did not just go for the Yamaha because it was a Yamaha. Having said that, my review is purely personal so the next person who plays it might hate the sound of the Roland completely.
I hope this is of some help to someone.
Thanks for your assistance in the matter Mr Howard. I had a good read through your check list etc before going to music shop.
