Yamaha CLP-S406 Reviews
“The sound of the CLP-S406 is full and more like a piano”
I made my mind up which digital piano to buy. A friend of mine who is a pianist accompanied me and helped me with the decision, but interestingly he chose the same model.
I had thought of before (without telling him): it`s the Yamaha CLP S406! I got it shipped and put up the very next day and I am really happy with it.
In comparison to the CLP 470 (which sounded a little like “breathing through the nose”) the sound of the 406 is fuller and more like a piano (maybe because of the speakers looking towards you beneath the claviature). In comparison with the Kawai (CA95 and CA65) both sounding really good, the handling with changing sounds and all the electronic possibilities was much comfortable with the Yamaha. Even in comparison with the CLP 440, the CLP S406 was better, although the price was similar.
There is one thing that is annoying and I wonder if anyone else has this problem (the piano seller in Vienna was of no help: he said, most of the people play without notes….):
The note-holder on the inside of the piano lid is not very practical. If you play from a notebook, not just copied sheets of paper, it can very easily fall down. There is no way to fix the book or to stabilize it. I also tried to position the book on top of the piano (and as it stands close to the wall, the book can lean on the wall), but for a
comfortable sitting position I would prefer to look at the notes closer to the claviature.
But all together I am really happy with the CLP S406 and also use the recording function to follow-up my improvements, and the set up songs (50 of them).
With best regards and also thank you for your help UK Pianos!

Question
Hi Graham – what do you think of the Yamaha CLP-S406?
Peter
Reply/ Hi Peter
I quite like the Yamaha CLP-S406.
It plays very much like the CLP440, but has a
slightly rounder, more resonant piano sound.
I can also imagine the CLP-S406 as the centre
piece of my living room. I would just have to
shuffle the sofa a bit (or get rid of it altogether)
to make sure the piano looks nice and has
enough space around it. It’s certainly a really
attractive piano!
I’d rather sit for hours at the piano than slouch
on the sofa watching a lousy film any day!
Verdict: If looks are as important to you as
the way the piano plays and sounds then yes,
the CLP-S406 would be a good choice.
Yours pianistically,
Graham Howard

Do the more expensive pianos like the Yamaha CLP-S406 and Classenti CDP3i
also offer a better quality as well as look?
Belinda
Reply/ Yes, absolutely!
The sound is markedly better on the more expensive ones.
Especially the Yamaha CLP-S406 and Classenti CDP3i.
These both have very large forward facing speakers.
The Classenti CDP3i even has a real wood soundboard on
the back… so the tone is deep and full of resonance.
