I finally settled for a Yamaha clav clp 370, and I linked it up with a laptop. I took your advise and got Ruth`s Rocket piano and also her songpond (which is really great), and now I`m as happy as a dog with two tails. The Clavinova cost me two thousand pounds, from a music shop in Boscombe, but I reckon its worth it, the sound is absolutely fantastic,its the real business. thanks once more Graham,

Dear Graham

Thanks for your emails.  They are so interesting and informative and I have enjoyed your piano course.  I am more than just a beginner but I have found it useful to re-visit some of the basics.  I am going to have a look at the Ruth Searle course soon and give you some feedback.

I visited the Piano Warehouse in Surbiton recently.  Spent ages playing and comparing the clp 340 and 370.  After about an hour, I finally decided on the 370 as I felt it had better sound quality.

As I was already on the premises with my estate car, I was able to load it up and bring it home.  I’m glad to say that the volume, at 40×2, has proved to be adequate for our church meetings (you may remember that it was replacing our old 60×2 Clavinova).  Moreover, the other pianists are very happy with the instrument.

So, thanks for your advice and I look forward to more communication with you.

Hi Graham

During my on-going research I have today visited a local music shop and seen a very nice piano – the Yamaha CLP370PE.

The sound quality and keyboard was extremely good and they currently had it on offer at £1,900. (normal RRP £2,431) (nb I am interested in buying a polished ebony piano)

As I am looking for a digital piano to be a piano first and for most (and not a all singing all dancing instrument) would you recommend this piano? and do you think it is value for money? (nb.  The shop only sold Yamaha)

Also, could you recommend any other digital pianos of equal quality/value.

The Yamaha CLP370 is one if the finest digital
pianos you can buy…

It’s got the best sound and most realistic touch.

The only other piano worth comparing against it
is the Classenti CDP2.

The CDP2 has a very good piano sound also. And
the key touch is fully-weighted, so it feels
very close to a real piano.

The CDP2 is a simple piano, with less features
(gadgets) than the CLP370. Having less features
brings the piano’s price down considerably.
