Yamaha CLP535 Reviews
1) “The CLP-535 Clavinova comes highly recommended”
I have just purchased a Yamaha CLP-535 for my 6 year old son who is very keen on learning to play, as is everyone else in the family – we may have to fight over access !
There are a several reasons we chose it, but the key ones are:
– The Clavinova comes highly recommended by some friends of ours who already own older models in the line
– The different advanced technologies used in the keyboard and sound production – it sounds and feels great
– it seems a better deal than the slightly cheaper but greatly inferior CLP-525 model
– The availability of the case in Mahogany
– Wireless connectivity and integration with iPad applications
– Our Budget
Thanks for the information you sent me about digital pianos, it was very helpful as I knew practically nothing about them beforehand.

2) “It has a good touch about it and a full rich tone”
Hello Graham,
Thank you for the piano lessons/tips. They will be useful for teaching.
We have finally purchased a Yamaha CLP535. We were able to try it out at our local music shop in Morecambe and they were able to match your price. As we have had such good service over the years we decided to go with them. It has a good touch about it and a full rich tone. Some of the organ voices are also good which will be handy when it comes to religious services. It will be played by many different people as it is going into our guest house so its versatility is a good resource to have.
I want to thank you for your support in the way of resources.
Your Howard’s Score was so helpful as well as your piano Bible in making the right purchase for us.

3) “I saw the Clavinova CLP535 in mahogany and was attracted to it straight away”
My first thoughts after deciding that I did not need a portable were the Yamaha Arius 142 over the P115, then upon further reading of the specs I decided on the 162 (I never deviated from Yamaha you’ll notice and cost increasing all the while). I spoke with Shaun at Gough and Davy and he mentioned the Casio AP650 as being good value and a worthy competitor to the Arius. He had all the models mentioned on demo in store.
I’d looked at the Clavinova CLP525 specs on line and decided they were too similar to the Arius 162 to justify the extra spend.
The 162 demo sounded good but the cabinet looked cheap with nasty, iron on Contiboard type plastic edging (it was the beech colour which didn’t help and I was under orders that it should be black from her who should be obeyed), the Casio demo sounded good and it looked the part (it WAS black) and the lift up lid was a nice touch – then I saw the Clavinova CLP535 in mahogany and was attracted to it straight away. A demonstration just sold it for me (another hike upwards in price) but my mind was made up. The final smile on my face was when I checked the great Howard Score. Gough and Davy have done me a good deal on an adjustable height seat too, as I pointed out that their price was competitive with other on-line retailers but they gave stools and headphones (of dubious quality) in with their deals.
As I get more used to playing and using the CLP535 I’ll send through more feedback.
So, to conclude, I’ve settled for the CLP535 in mahogany and I’ll just suffer the grief about the colour when it’s been delivered.
Thanks for your interest Graham.

5) “We loved the sound and feel of it”
Hi Graham
We bought the Yamaha CLP535 from you last Saturday and it was delivered on the following Friday.
We selected this model after a few emails to you and also looking at the Howard Score for advice.
At the outset we were looking at some cheaper digital pianos but when we found your site with such detailed information about the different models we decided that the ones we were considering would be disappointing and unsuitable. We really needed to spend more to get the performance we wanted and a piano that would be able to take us through all levels of learning to play.
With your advice and using the score we chose the Yamaha CLP535, went to a local music shop to try it out and loved the sound and feel of it.
We decided to buy from you because of the help you gave and also your price was better than in our local shop.
Although we have had only had 2 days to try it out we are very happy with it and would recommend anyone to follow your advice and scoring before they buy.

Hello Graham and thanks for all you do to help.
I was waiting for the new Yamaha P115 to arrive with dealers (I’d spoken over the phone with you last week about it), but in the mean time I read your book, looked at lots of reviews, watched lots of Youtube videos, and decided this was too big an issue to just rely on reviews and the personal assessment of others.
Finally, yesterday I visited my local Gough and Davy store, who have been established here in Hull for aeons and have a great local reputation and tried a few models that I had on my shortlist…….and the price and my preference went up and up and up! Shaun the salesman took time with me and nothing was too much trouble.
Finally I was totally smitten by and have ordered the Yamaha Clavinova CLP535 which should be delivered next week. Their price was as competitive as any internet price and they’re local should anything go wrong, also I’ve managed to order before Yamaha’s free 5 year warranty deal ends at the end of March so all has worked out well. I’m going to be taking piano lessons with their in house tutor too.
This shall be a new chapter in my life as I’ve always wanted to learn to play piano but never got around to doing anything about it (always too busy etc.). Now, at 67 I’m making the time and thought that I’d better start off with the right tool for the job and not compromise.
Once again Graham, thanks for the advice in your book (and the Howard Score) and I wish you well for the future.
Best regards
Steve Warner (24/03/2015)
